Floating of Apollo Bridge in Bratislava, Slovakia

The Most Apollo (Apollo Bridge; also known as Most Košická after the street leading to it) in Bratislava is a road bridge over the Danube in the capital of Slovakia. The bridge was opened to the public on September 5, 2005. [Apollo Bridge satellite pictures]

To minimize the traffic interruptions on the river (and save costs), the bridge was built on the river bank and then “floated” to it’s planned position. One side was fixed at a bearing on a bank, while other was slowly floated downstream to its final position.
